The Concussion Injury Lawyers at the Schmidt Salita Law Team wish to call your attention to a new medical development relating to Traumatic Brain Injuries and Concussion Injuries. This new development concerns Cervicogenic Post Concussion Disorder.

Cervicogenic Post Concussion Disorder

U.S. Food and Drug Administration FDA approved vector stamp

The close connection between neck injury and brain injury has recently been the subject of new medical advances. See Dr. John Leddy’s article titled Cervicogenic Post Concussion Disorder: A Pain in the Neck.

new device to help reduce the risk of traumatic brain injury resulting from head trauma has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the U.S. government. This is a Cshaped device called the Q-Collar, which fits snugly around the neck and may be used in nearly all circumstances. It limits the movement of the brain inside the skull which researchers believe generally causes traumatic brain injuries.

The FDA noted that blunt trauma accidents cause the brain to move, sometimes violently, inside the skull causing “whiplash of the brain,” or concussion. It is believed that the Q-Collar may aid in the protection of the brain from whiplash trauma by reducing the movement of the brain within the cranial space.

Medical Research Showing Connection Between Neck Trauma and Brain Trauma

The FDA approved overthecounter sales of the Q-Collar, based on research studies that concluded athletes who did not use the Q-Collar suffered significant negative changes on diffusion tensor imaging (a specialized MRI image) after injury. In comparison, the participants of the study group that wore the Q-Collar experienced only 23% change.

Minnesota Concussion Injury Lawyers – Schmidt Salita Law Team

The Schmidt Salita Law Team includes a staff of lawyers and legal assistants that are well trained and very experienced in representing the victims of both traumatic brain injuries and concussion injuries resulting from car accidents. Statistics compiled by the Schmidt Salita Law Team reveal that approximately 60% of people involved in a moderate to severe car accident have sustained a concussion injury. The statistics also show that more than 75% of these concussion victims either did not seek immediate medical attention or were misdiagnosed. Many continued to experience the classic symptoms of concussion injury: headaches, balance problems, memory and concentration deficits, sleep disorders, chronic fatigue and personality change.

Contingent Fee Arrangements Available

A contingent fee agreement means you don’t have to pay for the lawyer’s service “up front.” Your lawyer agrees to work on your case without any payment until the lawyer produces a settlement. The lawyer will only get paid when the client receives compensation from a settlement or court judgment – and then as a percentage of the recovery.

Contingent fee agreements for lawyers are very similar to those of real estate agents who do their work without pay until the house gets sold; only then do the agents collect their fees as a percentage of the property’s total sales price.

This type of agreement has two big advantages. First, it allows the client to get the services of a personal injury attorney when they otherwise wouldn’t be financially able to pay for one. Second, a contingent fee agreement has a built-in incentive for the lawyer to do a good job because the larger the settlement the more the attorney is paid.
